Matt's professional career began in 2000, when he ran Late Model Stock Cars. He has four years experience in the Hooters ProCup Series, where he finished in the top-ten in the Championship Series Points on three occasions. In 2007, Matt finished 8th in the Hooter's ProCup Championship Series Points, won one race (Iowa Speedway), won two poles (Salem IN and Lakeland, FL), each with track records, and had eight top-ten finishes in 13 races. In 2004, Matt was awarded the Miller Lite Rookie of the Year in that series.
In addition to these accomplishments, Matt ran in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series in 2003 at Martinsville Speedway. Once again proving his adaptability and skills Matt qualified for the race in the 14th position, with no provisional available, and successfully managed to finish the race 17th.
